Barcelona.. what a town ..what an apartment!

Since the roaring success of the Olympics in 1990 when Freddie sang with Maria and Greg Louganis came back from a diving disaster to win gold, Barcelona has fast become one of the world's top destinations. A vibrant city of commerce, food and culture with a booming tech hub and four mile beach, the city is attracting foreign buyers from all over the world.

Our client secured a spectacular apartment in the upmarket area of Sarria. Requiring a full refurbishment we worked with his architect to bring the space to life.

Lighting...

Whilst existing electrical cabling was utilised for all the new light fittings and sources, the constraints imposed by the property's situation meant that we were unable to lay new signal cabling for a hardwired control system.

We therefore employed Rako's Wireless system which was designed specifically for situations requiring a retrofit solution. Multi zone, multi scene lighting control was achieved throughout the dwelling with a mix of beautiful satin steel wall plates and hand held remotes.

Window Treatments...

We also solved a problem - a nice problem admittedly! - of the intense Barcelona sun hitting the apartment in the summer months, which causes the ubiquitous air conditioning systems to work twice as hard: We programmed the Rako hub to lower automated Silent Gliss blinds on the west facing side of the apartment at 1pm and raise them again at 6pm to capture the beautiful evening sky.

Installation...

Ordinarily BRAND engineers would undertake installation but flying our team to Barcelona for the duration of the project would have been impractical and uneconomical.

In this instance we therefore acted as consultant for our client to find a suitably qualified local lighting engineer. Whilst this took a little longer than was first anticipated, the effort was worth it, as the installation went without a single hitch.
